Abstract The introduction of the first Directive on Energy Performance Buildings (EPBD) and its consequent reforms, initiated a wide discussion energy efficiency retrofit old building stock. As EPBD excluded heritage buildings under statutory protection due to conservation conflicts, it soon became apparent that fabric value significant number mainly traditional were at risk, threatened by incompatible interventions. Since then, substantial amount research projects, initiatives carried out, mostly examining performance investigating application retrofits within frame preservation value. However, issues such as sustainability interventions, inherent sustainable environment friendly characteristics, along with compatibility, adaptability resilience have not been studied extensively, even though these aspects could act decisive parameters low impact operation longevity buildings.
